Course general Description: This course provides students with fundamental knowledge about engagement with, and discussions about, mathematical concepts that are necessary to all the following mathematics courses. Concepts include mathematical logic and proof, set theory, relations, cardinality of sets, binary operations and number systems. These concepts are relevant across the number and algebra, calculus, and statistics curriculum strands. Student will deepen his understanding of these mathematical concepts with an emphasis on building his confidence, and appreciation of the interconnected nature of mathematical content and the role of mathematics as a critical tool to deal with problems.
Course Main Objective(s): After finishing the course, student is expected to be familiar with the following:
1- Basic concepts in mathematics.
2- Skills necessary to understand the logic of mathematics and abstract structures.
3- Methods to understand hypotheses, theories and proofs.
