This course primarily provides fundamental and important topics in inorganic chemistry. Types of salts, introduction to the d-block elements, introduction for the general concepts of coordination compounds, classification of ligands, Werner’s coordination theory for explanation the bonding in coordination compounds, nomenclature of coordination complexes according IUPAC systems, types of isomerism of coordination compounds, theories of coordination chemistry: valence bond theory (VBT), crystal field theory (CFT), molecular orbital theory (MOT) of octahedral and tetrahedral complexes, factors affecting the stability of complexes, magnetic properties (magnetic susceptibility and moments) and optical properties (color) of coordination compounds. This course also aims to provides the fundamentals of the spectroscopy of inorganic compounds including Infrared (IR) and Ultraviolet–visible (UV-vis.) spectroscopies.
