This course aims to make students familiar with how language is used in society which is the main focus of sociolinguistics. Also, to enable students to identify and explain different dialects and accents. Students will learn the fundamental concepts and approaches involved in the study of sociolinguistics such as bilingualism, Diglossia, Pidgin and Creole.

Explain how language is used and how it varies across the array of contexts in which we engage daily also focusing on its various roles in different communities, societies and countries.
