Course Description Use of basic mathematical concepts in chemical engineering calculation. Basic concepts in processes and process variables. Material balances in chemical and physical processes. Recycle by-pass and purge calculations. Critical properties and compressibility charts. Vapor-liquid equilibria, partial saturation and humidity. Computer applications Course Main Objective The course aims to help students understanding the fundamental of chemical engineering calculation, which is related to process variables and mass balance of physical or chemical process in different cases. Also, the course will help the student dealing with binary system at equilibrium for liquid and vapor phases Course Learning Outcome Define and describe major chemical engineering unit operations and equipment Identify units and dimensions and work with unit's conversion between SI and the American units' systems Develop relationships between different process variables Apply the basic principles of materials and energy balances to solve reactive and non-reactive systems Make necessary assumptions to solve problems in a stepwise manner using conventional notations and suitable engineering equations |
