Akbar Ali Ahmad
Dr. Akbar Ali Ahmad is working as assistant professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the college of pharmacy, teaching Biochemistry, Biostatistics, Molecular Biology, Clinical Nutrition, and Pharmacogenomics to undergraduates.
He has a PhD degree in the field of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology completed in 2012 from University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. His thesis title was “Spectrum of FLT3 and NPM1 mutations in acute myeloid leukemia in Pakistani population”. He completed all of his research work at Department of Haematology, Cancer Institute, University College London, where he used a number of molecular biology techniques like PCR, DHPLC, fragment analysis, RFLP, DNA extraction and electrophoresis for his research work. He also has expertise in DNA sequencing using Sanger method.
Dr. Ali has also worked as a part-time Consultant Molecular Biologist at National Genetics Laboratory, Lahore, for more than five years where he was responsible for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of HCV, HBV and MTB using Rotor-Gene 6000 and PikoReal-24 real time PCR.
Dr. Ali earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy (B. Pharm) degree from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan in the year 2000. He had been working in the quality control department of different pharmaceutical companies from 2000 to 2004, where he was responsible for drug analysis using HPLC, spectrophotometry and titration techniques.
