Dr. Akbar Ali Ahmad

I have a PhD degree in the field of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology completed in 2012 from University of the Punjab, Lahore. The title of my thesis is “Spectrum of FLT3 and NPM1 mutations in acute myeloid leukemia in Pakistani population”. I completed my research work at Department of Haematology, Cancer Institute, University College London, where I learnt a number of molecular biology techniques like PCR, DHPLC, fragment analysis, RFLP, DNA extraction and electrophoresis. I also have expertise in DNA sequencing using Sanger method. Currently, I am working in the college of pharmacy, teaching biochemistry, biostatistics, molecular biology, clinical nutrition, and pharmacogenomics to undergraduates.

I have also worked as a part-time Consultant Molecular Biologist at National Genetics Laboratory, Lahore, for more than five years where I was responsible for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of HCV, HBV and MTB using Rotor-Gene 6000 and PikoReal-24 real time PCR.

I got my B. Pharm degree from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan in the year 2000. I had been working in the quality control department of different pharmaceutical companies from 2000 to 2004, where I was responsible for drug analysis using HPLC, spectrophotometry and titration techniques.

My research interests include molecular detection of genetic and infectious diseases, and molecular pathology, the changes in biochemical process in the body that invite infections and inflammation.
