Introduction to Translation

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1-    Recognize various approaches and principles of translation.

2-    Translate successfully various sentences and short passages from English into Arabic and vice versa.

3-    Deduce linguistic, cultural differences and problems arising when translating from English into Arabic and vice versa.

Legal Translation

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1-    Recognize the principles, problems and strategies of legal translation.

2-    Translate successfully various legal texts from Arabic into English and vice versa.   

Translation Theory

By the end of this course the student will:

1.  Be familiar with different translation theories and approaches.

2. Recognize different translation problems that a translator encounters during the process of translation at the various levels: lexical, syntactic, stylistic, semantic, and cultural.

3. Use different translation strategies to address difficulties and problems encountered in rendering different texts.
